An archive of over 60 items drawn by Maine artist and photographer Carroll Thayer Berry. Pencil drawings on paper, board, and lined notebook paper with details on candleholders, commerical signage hardware, andirons, and bootscrapers. Also includes three full size drawings of andiron designs with both front and side views delineated. Smudging and folds to many of the drawings, but a fascinating record of a designer's creative process.
Carroll Thayer Berry (1886-1978) is perhaps best know for his woodblock prints of the Maine coast, especially the communities of Wiscasset, Rockland, Rockport, and Camden. Berry worked in a variety of industries, including as an advertising artist in Chicago before moving back to Maine in the 1930s.
