Controversial from when Wright first proposed it in 1938, this schamatic represents a second pass at the project that came very close to moving forward in the late 1960s. Finally built in a modified version and opened in 1997, only the convention center was built, the extensive parklands along Olin Park and Turville Point to the southwest were not part of the final project.
