State "B" or second printing as identified by Max Brun, meets all first printing attributes except that the editor's note on the final page of Volume 4 is set in 16 lines instead of the 15 lines as it was in the first printing (Brun, Max: "Bibliograpie des éditions des 'Liaisons Dangereuses' portant le millésime 1782" (1963), pp. 10-15). There were only 2,000 copies printed in the first run, with subsequent printings throughout the year.
