The first volume in Priestley's three volume work on the study of gases. This volume expands upon his observations reported in Volume 62 (1772) of the "Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London." Also contains Priestley's proposal to carbonate water, which eventually lead to the creation of the mineral water industry.
