Shepherd, Thos. H. London: Jones & Co., 1827-1829. Three Quarter Leather. First Edition. 160, iii; vi, 12 (Subjects), 172, ii (List of Engravings). Both volumes have red leather spine with five slightly raised bands, gold embossed titling and decoration, losses at head and foot of spine. Volume I front board hanging by one cord, considerable foxing to frontispiece engraving and first title page with engraving of Temple Bar, From the Strand. Volume II front board detached. Marbled endpapers, considerable foxing to frontispiece engraving and first title page with engraving of Sussex Place at Regent's Park; this title page appears to have suffered water damage and was re-backed with another sheet of paper by a binder, second title page undamaged. Light foxing throughout, including the numerous engraved illustrations at rear, two per page. Good.
A fascinating survey of London's built environment in the early 19th century.
