Zodiac 1. International Magazine of Contemporary Architecture

Zodiac 1. International Magazine of Contemporary Architecture.

Brussels, Belgium: Association Pour La Diffusion Artistique et Culturelle, 1957. Wraps. First Edition. 276 pp. 4to. Slick stiff wraps with scuffing from shelf wear, clear exterior original laminate on cover starting at edges. Very clean within. A photo of Walter Gropius and one of his buildings grace the front cover. Very Good.
This premier issue of "Zodiac" contains Walter Gropius's (1883-1969) article, "Apollo in the Democracy" (pp. 9-14) which was his address when given the Hanseatic Goether Prize at Hamburg June 5, 1957. This publication represents a "Who's Who" in International and Modern design mid-century. Articles by Sigfried Giedion, Ettore Sottsass Jr., Victor Gruen and others, accompanied by reviews of books, and photographs of contemporary buildings. What is as interesting as the design content are the advertisements by Olivetti (which also sponsored the magazine), Knoll, and others.
