This parish suffered earthquakes, cyclone, and the Civil War. Interesting, containing much history.

From there he crossed Pennsylvania, went to New York, and on to Boston. All the while he observed political practices, land usage, Indian customs, laws, slavery, the cotton industry, the western emigration, and more. Always he made geological observations and experiments. Still a fascinating book 150 years later!.

Perhaps obscured by the Disney attractions in Centrel Florida, the Tower was crerated to provide a retreat of natural beauty for the human, a refuge for birds, and a study of Southern planting.
