Boards somewhat scuffed, corners and edges a bit worn. Bright gilt on spine.Binding is tight. One page has a large closed tear, else interior clean and tight. St. Nicholas was a popular childrens' monthly for many years, containing fiction, poetry, "jingles," pictures, photo ills., continuing stories, and more. Regular departments included nature and science, books and reading, letters, riddles, and the St. Nicholas League - contents in photography, verse, prose, drawing, puzzle making, and puzzle solving. Many famous authors and artists appeared in the magazine. In this issue, lengthy verse written & illustrated by Palmer Cox, "The Baron and the Elves." There are four installments of the Japanese fiction "Kibun Daizin." Much poetry and verse, including the racist "Johnniky Van and the Cannibal Man" by Ellen Manly and an Uncle 'Rastus cartoon by Peter Newell. For racist prose, there's "Fun Among the Red Boys." The final four installments of "A Comedy in Wax" appear. Near Very Good.
