Blue cloth covered boards with gold embossed titling to spine and titled "Recherches de Chimie Organique". Four extracts from proceedings published by L'Academie des Sciences in Paris. Papers are of two different sizes but have been bound in one uniform binding. The titles are as follows: "Memoire sur les Ethers Composes" published by L'Academie in 1838, Volume XV, pp 457-494. "Memoire sur la loi des Substitutions et la Theorie des Types" published by L'Academie in 1840, Volume X, pp 147-207, Dumas dissertation on pp. 149-178. "Recherches sur le Veritable Poids Atomique du Carbone" published by L'Academie in 1840, Volume XI, pp 991-1020, "Reserches de Chimie Organique, Relatives a l'Action du Chlore sur l'Alcool loi des Substitions ou Metalepsie" published by L'Academie in 1838, Volume XV, pp 519-556. In his short life, Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906) broke many barriers and became one of the first African American poets to earn national distinction nationally. Dunbar wrote conventional verse as well as in dialect, this was his third book. 208 pp. 12mo. Green cloth covered boards with green embossed design on cover board, quite sinuous, and gold embossed titling tp spine. Scuffing to boards from age, sunning to spine, small worm holes at hinge, more pronounced at front and rear pastedowns. Front and rear boards beginning to separate from text block, but still tight overall. Frontispiece photograph laid in with tissue guard still intact. Good.

Front endpapers of Volume II are illustrated with a map of the World, rear endpapers also a map of the World but from a different perspective and delineating the many United States alliances. Each volume is crisp and clean within and appears to never have been read. Each volume signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower in black ink on tipped in page preceding the title page, facing the limitation page. Volume I is copy #557 of 1,434; Volume II is copy #245 of 1,434. There were a total of 1,500 copies of each volume printed. Each volume comes in its original, paper covered slipcase; both in Very Good condition with minor scuffing from shelf wear.
