First American Edition, which preceded the English Edition. 138 pp., plus 4 pp. book ads. Blind-stamped, bright gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Covers and spine are somewhat aged. Lower portions of covers and spine are faded/worn or water(?) damaged to a paler shade of green. Cover edges have occasional small dents. Spine ends and corners are bumped and frayed. There is a small split (less than one inch) in the fabric of lower spine where it was weakened. T.e.g. Edges are slightly aged. Previous owner's brief ink notation on ffep and brief ink and pencil notation on rear fly leaf. Interior is occasionally very slightly foxed, but crisp and tight. Extremely rare with book advertisements, the American Edition was the true first, being published four days earlier than the British edition.
