DONE IN THE OPEN.
New York: P.F. Collier & Sons, 1902. Hard Cover. First Edition. Unpag. B/w ills. "With an introduction and verses by Owen Wister and others." Large format book has color drawing of soldier on front cover, which is gray paper over boards. Lettered in deeper gray. Dark cloth backstrip is discolored but tight. Boards are edgeworn and soiled. Front hinge tender. Eps soiled. Contents are clean; binding is precarious, but all pps. attached now. A glorious collection of Remington drawings illustrated by short bits of verse, apparently some of it his. Large center double-page drarwing "Caught in the Circle" in color. Remington drew American history, according to Wister's introduction. He concludes: "If ever it should occur...to the minds of academic institutions...that Remington should be crowned at their hands, I should like to hear him receive his degree in these words: 'Frederic Remington, Draughtsman, Historian, Poet'." Very Good.
