Wilkinson, Nevile.
YVETTE IN VENICE AND TITANIA'S PALACE.
London: Oxford University Press, 1923. Hard Cover. First Edition. Inscribed By Author. 112 pp. Four color illustrations, 24 b/w. Tan cover has attractive design stamped in red on front and spine. Spine is slightly creased at top and bottom and somewhat sunned; corners are bumped. There is one red spot on cover and a "ding" on bottom front cover. But once the book is opened, these minor imperfections are forgotten. Endpapers are red maps on white of a tour through Italy. The half-title page is inscribed by the author for "Billy and Peanut" and signed by Wilkinson on January 22, 1927 in tiny handwriting. Presumably written by Titania the Queen of Fairies, the book takes a tour through Italy's magical city of Venice, with illustrations by John S. Sargent, Alinari, Beatrix and Nevile Wilkinson, and Col. R. Goff. A true fairy tale for children, this book is packed with information in a most pleasant package. The story is prefaced by a message from Titania urging readers to "reverence the past and do kind actions in the present, so that you have little fear of the future." Following the last page, a perforated form is included for those wishing to learn how to become companions(boys) or rose maidens(girls) of Fairyland. A delightful gift for those of any age who still believe in fairies -- or those who love Venice. Very Good.
