Webster, Noah.
THE PROMPTER.
Boston, Massachusetts: I. (Isaiah) Thomas and E.T. Andrews, 1793. Hardcover. Early. 96 pp. Subtitle, "Or a Commentary on Common Sayings and Subjects Which are Full of Common Sense, the Best Sense in the World." Early edition of this Noah Webster title, published by Isaiah Thomas. Publication date is slightly vague as the ink blurred on the last numeral or two. Date reads, "MDCCXCI" and then it's difficult to tell whether it says, "II" or "V." To us, it looks more like "II," making the year 1793. Tan leather spine and greyish-green paper over wooden boards. Upper and lower spine has worm holes. Covers are chipped, and/or broken, at the corners. Hinges starting. Covers have minor surface worm tracks. Rear cover is split horizontally approximately 1 1/2" above the lower edge. Quite a bit of worming to preliminaries, but text is still readable. No author is cited on the title page, so someone has written in ink, "By Noah Webster." Text, on beautiful old laid paper, is aged and foxed to varying degrees throughout. Quite rare. Good Minus.
