Title block scraped. Cover a bit soiled. Pasted on t.p. is the following anncmt: "This issue of VERVE was completed just a few days before the occupation on France. Extraordinary difficulties and extremely high expenses were incurred in order to bring copies to America. In spite of the greatest efforts and sacrifices, more than half of the edition has been lost..."because of...the small number of copies which eventually reached this country it has been necessary to establish a price of $3.50 for this issue." A beautiful issue of poetry, essays, articles, and stunning artwork, including tipped-in ills; a two-page print of Bonnard's Sunset on the Mediterranean. Another two-page ill. is Leger's Skyscape. A calendar features drawings, titles and signs by Andre Derain, plus small, exquisite tipped-in color & gilt ills. of Charles D'Angouleme (Bibliotheque Nationale Fifteenth Century). Very Good.
