NEW HAMPSHIRE. RESOURCES, ATTRACTIONS, AND ITS PEOPLE. A HISTORY. 5 VOLS.
New York: The Lewis Historical Publishing Co., Inc. 1927. Dark Green Cloth. First Edition. 1284 pp. v.1-4; 287 pp. v.5. B/w portrait ills. Large attractive books are covered in cloth which is pebbled in texture in corners and backstrip, suggesting leather binding. All vols. have a little edgewear and some minor scuffing; Vol. 1 has a 1" tear at upper back of spine. All have creased spine ends, very lightly bumped corners. Eps are sage green; those in Vol. 5 have a scratch mark at edge of ffep and an ink notation at top of that page. Interiors are all clean and tight, suggesting that this set has seen very little use, although there is minor foxing in vol. 5. A preface explains that rather than dwelling on colonial beginnings, these volumes describe the physical and natural attributes of the state, then cover the period of early settlement through the Revolutionary War, state history through 1842, and then examine transportation development between 1840 and 1850 with the building of railroads. The historical narrative continues then, through the Civil War and the Spanish American War, and then looks at industry and the growth of cities. State government, educational systems, agriculture, and the ethnic origins of the population are covered. Volume 5 is an indexed biography. Very Good.
