As. 3-volume set of the complete works of the author of "The Pilgrim's Progress" - xvi, cxxvii, 771; viii, 768; viii, ii, 790, including index. No publication date given. Complete title, "The Whole Works of John Bunyan, Accurately Reprinted From the Author's Own Editions. With Editorial Prefaces, Notes, and Life of Bunyan. By George Offor, Esq. Numerous Illustrative Engravings." All 3 volumes are uniformly bound in reddish-brown cloth. Spines have the title, volume number and two rules in fairly bright gilt. Bindings are slighlty aged and shelf-worn. Spines are slightly sun-darkened. Spine ends and corners are lightly bumped. Page edges are slightly aged and soiled. Preliminaries foxed to varying degrees. Vol. I has a b/w engraved frontis portrait of Bunyan, with protective tissue. Tissue separates frontis from the half-title page engraving, "The Church and Village Green, Elstow, Bedfordshire." Vol. II has a b/w frontis engraving, "Bunyan's Tomb," with protective tissue. Tissue separates frontis from the half-title page engraving, "Bedford, From the London Road." Vol. III has a b/w engraved frontis portrait of Bunyan, with protective tissue. Tissue separates frontis from the half-title page engraving, "Christan Armed by Piety, Prudence, and Charity." Vol. III contains "The Pilgrim's Progress," as well as a list of the illustrations in all three volumes which were reproduced from steel engravings and woodcuts. Vol. III has occasional, brief pencil notes in the margins. Each volume has a red ribbon page marker, which has now detached from the spine. Interiors are slightly aged and, occasionally, foxed to varying degrees. The engravings are printed on paper stock which differs from the text. These plates are somewhat age-darkened along the edges, to varying degrees. Very Good.
