Kurth, Dr. Julius.
UTAMARO.
Leipzig: F. A. Brockhaus, 1907. Paper Over Boards. First Edition. 390 pp. B/w & color ills. Interesting cover is a pale print of daisies with yellow centers on a lighted ivory background. This pattern is repeated on book edges. Front cover has b/w illus. of woman holding fan, gilt lettering, and red and black Japanese characters. Spine lettered in gilt in German, the language of the text. Spine has a few discolored spots. There is occasional edgewear to cover, and three of the four corners are bumped. Eps, in the same daisy print, have penciled p.o. on ffep and a small stamped letter "B" on rear paste-down. Just a touch of foxing to prelims and occasionally throughout. Frontis is a color portrait of Dame Tomimoto Toyohina, protected with a delicately patterned rice paper, which has a closed tear to upper edge. There are four more full-page color ills, each with the nice protective rice paper. Many, man b/w ills. Very Good.
