Glover, Richard.
LEONIDAS: A POEM. TWO VOLS.
London: Printed By C. Whittingham for Cadell and Davies, et al, 1804. Leather. Seventh Edition. 187, 189 pp. B/w plates. Nice tree calf bindings are ruled front and back with decorative gilt rules. Spines have bright gilt rules and embellishments, red title blocks. On both vols. the front board is detached and leather is splitting at back hinge. Gilt dentelles on edges. Vol. 1 has one threadbare corner, some edgewear to bottom edges, one "crimp" on top front edge and small erosion of leathers at upper spine. Red, black and white marbled eps have a library bookplate on front paste-down. There is a different bookplate on verso of ffep, some penciled notes. First fly has a stamped lib. ownership plate. Finally, a bust of Glover is the frontis. These pps. are all detached from main text. There is a bit of foxing to t.p., but thereafter the text is clean and crisp, on lovely laid paper. Cover to Vol. 2 has more edgewear, scuffed corners, similar plate on eps and stamp on fly. There are touches of foxing throughout v. 2. These volumes have a nice overall appearance. Near Very Good.
