Philadelphia: R.G. Kennedy & Co. 1900. Paper. Connoisseur Edition. Ten Parts. Each part consists of loose page reproductions inside a stiff, chocolate brown, paper wrapper with a 3" x 4" pasted-on title label on the front cover. Each title label has a reproduction of a different character out of one of Dicken's tales. The whole is encased in a paper-over-boards folio with two tie closures. The covers of the folio are of dark gray paper over a brown cloth spine. The front cover has reproductions of three of Dickens' characters as well as a 3-3/4" x 5" pasted-on, illlustrated title label. The covers are somewhat aged, slightly soiled and edge-worn. The spine has been repaired at the top, but still has an approx. 1" long, closed tear at the front hinge. Spine ends are bumped and frayed. Corners are bumped and frayed to the boards. The front paste-down has an attractive bookplate of a former owner. It also has a pasted-on label which reads, "Connoisseur Edition Issued for Private Circulation No. 666." Part I: nine plates of Charles Dickens, at various ages, and one of his father, John Dickens; Part II: ten more plates of Charles Dickens; Part III: one reproduction of an original Pickwick cover and six plates of play bills; Part IV: seven plates of caricatures of Dickens, three of them from sketches by Thackeray; Part V: seven plates of photos, sketches and caricatures of Dickens: Part VI: five reproductions of various documents and one of sketches of Dickens's reading table and favorite chair; and one entitled "Grotesque Figure, Chalk Church, Kent" plus a sketch of six silver punch ladles "on the handle of each is represent a Pickwick character" (seven plates in all): Part VII: seven plates depicting various houses or buildings relevant to Dickens's life and work; Part VIII: two portraits of Charles Dickens; two plates "engraved in fac-simile of an etching by George Cruikshank, 1839"; one reproduction of a drawing by Cruikshank; one plate that shows two etchings of Dickens and a reproduction of "The Poets' Corner" in Westminster Abbey (seven plates in all); Part IX: six more portraits of Dickens at various ages; and Part X: the final seven plates with reproductions of illustrations of Dickens, his characters and various places from Dickens life or work. All plates are intact. They are somewhat aged, more so on the backs than on the fronts. They are also, occasionally, very lightly soiled and/or foxed. Overall, they are in very good plus condition.
