Lettered on front in bright gilt, the binder is tight, but spine looks a bit woebegone. Corners good, binding secure, all edges untrimmed. Demorest's mission as stated is to refine, elevate, and instruct. "It is a safe family guide, a counselor and friend for the young..." Contents include literature, art, architecture, poetry, floriculture, house and home matters, work table, fashions, editorials, science at home, kitchen, books reviews, and more. Each issue includes full-page tissue-protected b/w ills. Three months have chromolithograph frontises.The fashion features are particularly well illustrated, offering great information on the fashions of the day for both home and person. Particular attention given to the accomplishments of women, with listings of significant achievements each issue. Editorial content very good, interesting, well-written. Also a wonderful source of period advertising, books to bustles, spices to sewing machines. Very Good.
